While there are many readers who liked this book, it fell flat for me. I felt that instead of reading about grown women, their friendship and struggles and connection because of their love of books, I was reading about immature High Schoolers. I need a lot of internal eye rolling and it never hit the right chord with me.

I read this book in one sitting, so clearly the writing was entertaining and kept my interest (well past my bedtime). It's a good look at some aspects of military spouse life, the bonds of the family you choose, and friends who will drop everything and come to your aid whenever you need them.

I would say that this story is less dramatic than I expected and the betrayal that is at the center of the conflict is ... fairly predictable and not really worthy of the angst it caused for as long as it did. But life on or around base can be like that at times, full of high expectations, a calm and unruffled front, and unseen suffering.

I really enjoyed how the story was presented, with multiple viewpoints, great character development of different personalities, different timelines interwoven.

It may not be the most scandalous, exciting, or shocking read of 2021, but it is a great book to curl up with and enjoy.

Story of 3 women, Adelaide, Regina, and Sophie, with military ties that become friends in a book club while their husbands/partners are deployed. Then, when one of the friends witnesses something affecting another friend, she doesn't know what to do. But, the secret comes out anyway and destroys the friendship. Now, years later, Adelaide puts out a SOS to Regina and Sophie to come to her aid as she needs emergency surgery.
This is a long drawn-out story of military spouses, the things they endure, and missteps in friendships.
Just OK.

This book was more of 3.5 stars over 3 starts. I enjoyed the three main characters and the character development. I really enjoyed how the story was told in the 3 main characters' point of views and that it also went from past to the present. I thought the plot was good, but definitely could have been better. There was a minor plot twist at the end that I did enjoy.

Three estranged friends are reunited when one of them texts out an SOS. Regina, Sophie, and Adelaide are army spouses - they met and bonded over book club - but ten years later Regina and Sophie aren't on speaking terms. Bouncing back and forth between 2011 and present day - readers learn about what drew the three friends together and at the conclusion learned what pivotal event drove them apart. Adelaide's husband is stationed in Germany when the pains start. She'll need surgery and she'll need someone to watch her two year old daughter - there is no one she trusts more than her two friends and maybe she can bring them back together in the process. A story of female friendships and a discovery that family isn't just those related by blood - it's the people will choose. Totally okay book, but not mind blowing.
