i related to this a lot and really wanted to love it. unfortunately it just didn’t come together in the way i hoped. there was a lot of information, sometimes about finance which i mostly enjoyed, but i felt it wasn’t necessary most of the time. i would have liked to see a lot more of carries inner dialogue, what she was thinking during these times versus just recounting what happened. while she was describing the interview process i was just waiting to get to her thoughts on the whole thing, but we never got them. perhaps this was in support of the point that she had no EQ and was used to subduing her emotions, but i still think she could and should have reflected a bit more throughout.
that said, i really enjoyed the parts about her family and how that affected her as an adult. i think she has an interesting story and mostly wrote it well, but i just wanted more detail, more inner self, less jumping between scenes with no reflection or explanation

This story reads like a fiction novel, but it's labeled as a memoir. I did enjoy Carrie's intelligence, and how she made a way for herself. There were some jumps in time and some things in her personal life that I would loved to have seen be more fleshed out. There was finance info overload that could've been scaled back to a minimum. The tone of the writing suggests that the author still has emotional wounds from her experiences that need to be healed.

This was a solidly interesting memoir about the inner workings of a private equity firm and the author’s experience within it. Maybe this is me wanting the book to be a thing it isn’t, but because a big part of the thing that made this big company Bad was its lack of transparency and its coldness, I wanted the style and tone of this book to be really raw and personal and no holds barred. That’s not quite what I got. Though it was personal, it always felt like some details were just a little out of reach (we never, for instance, learned Carrie’s salary). It felt at times like we were given just enough to get the point, but not enough for me to really live in the story.

Good quick read. It’s a peak into the lives of the very wealthy. I didn’t understand how she thought this job would give her more time or fulfill what she was looking for, but I found it very interesting nonetheless.

As someone who relates a lot to Carrie's story, I really enjoyed both the shallower gossipy bits about Carbon and her personal transformation and growth. Looking forward to more from this author!
