The friend who gave this to me called it “the face-melting grindcore of comics.” He’s not wrong. Come ready for a technicolor knife fight. In space. Do not shower.

I love the [a:Jack Kirby|10299|Jack Kirby|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1206594751p2/10299.jpg] black light poster look of the art. Unfortunately, I found the story difficult to engage with. I'm not sure if that was because while the art is always fantastic to look at, it's too busy to effectively lead to smooth storytelling or just that the story here is a little too thin.

Well, that was a trip. The dialog was pretty clunky at times - though I got the impression that was the point of it. The art was awesomely ridiculous. And it contained this gem: "I like my coffee like I like my outer space. Black and infinite."

Would read again.

Wow. This book is beyond ridiculous. The characters fly around in a spaceship shaped like a skull and fight all manner of creatures. There are robots, aliens, and even a giant space whale. And the colors are weird in a really good way. They are super colorful, which doesn't happen much in science fiction books.

The actual story left a little to be desired. It follows the captain of this ship as he seeks redemption for a failed mission. He is joined by a robot shaped like a female human, with nipples that shoot lasers, and a semi-pacifist ape. This is a fun book for all the unusual elements. I just didn't feel like I had a whole lot of reason to care about the characters or what happened with them. Worth checking out none-the-less.

This art is so frikkin‰ЫЄ awesome. And the writing‰ЫЄs pretty good, too. I was especially excited to see the word FERRIER on the title page. What? No way! I just happened to pick up this cosmically psychedelic book at the library and it was lettered by Ryan Ferrier?!? SWEET.

The story was crazy and over the top. The art was crazy and over the top. The whole dang book was crazy and over the top.

That‰ЫЄs what made it so beautiful. And so much fun.

The evil scum of the universe ain‰ЫЄt gonna kill themselves.
