The book equivalent of browsing a community thrift store for hours. Mean that in a good way.

A strange, and inarticulable work. One's appreciation for this is entirely based on one's love and admiration for Korine. If you think Korine is a genius, that he crafts loving portraits of those abused and otherized by society, then this will be one of the most potent examples of his craft. If you hate Korine this is a testament to his bigotry, it's pretentious garble of the highest order.

I, of course, love Korine. Most people who would read something like this probably already do. I find this to be one of the most potent examples of Korine's work I have engaged with, up there with Gummo, my favorite film of all time. Korine crafts a multi-layered, non-narrative book of jokes that reveals all of America's most insidious modes of oppression in full. He does so without signaling what he's doing, whether it's critique or celebration isn't quantified, Korine only gives you the images, and you ascribe their meaning. It's all about perspective, and the perspective is (intentionally) never once made clear.

One step down from Korine's masterwork (Gummo). Sometimes hilarious, sometimes tragic, sometimes profound, sometimes incomprehensible. Always very Korine.

All i knew about this guy when i picked up his book was that he wrote the movie Kids starring Chloe Sevigny & also that he briefly dated Chloe Sevigny. (I love Chloe Sevigny.)

I was intrigued by the book's unconventional/non-linear setup... but then was quickly let down.

I literally don't understand how "artsy" white men often get away with using offensive slurs & jokes under the guise of "art" or "dark humor". Nope! Gross! No thank you! Not art to me!

(Turns out he also directed Spring Breakers lmao)

It’s got a mixture of good and bad, distasteful but funny. Not so sure it’s as cool as I thought before but it certainly is a fun and twisted book full of idiosyncratic notes and lists that Harmony Korine’s fans will like.

The letters from Tupac were the highlight for me, I wish we had a whole book of them.

“I bet you have no more friends than an alarm clock.”
“I gave up bowling for sex-- the balls are lighter and I don’t have to wear shoes.”
“Incest is relative.”
“My brother had a heart attack snorting cocaine off the cover of a Pete Seeger album.”
“Robert Frost Bite.”
“I knew this one pitcher who got arrested for chewing tobacco. One day he spit and drowned a midget.”
“A mistress is something between a master and a mattress.”

It's Korine. Not much more I can say right now.

I am a bit at loss here as how to rate or review this book.

It's much like his movies: sometimes you laugh, sometimes you feel someone's pain, sometimes you feel extremely uncomfortable, sometimes you have no idea what he's on about and sometimes all those mix together in one single line.

This guy is truly one of a kind and his ideas and thoughts are completely eclectic (aka wacky). No wonder he had too little patience to finish more movies, his mind cannot stay still.
Loved: 2Pac letters, suicide notes, ten ethnic adolescent atrocities and a lot of random sentences.
