Listened to GU read this as an audiobook. Listening to her stories makes me feel like I’m turning into a better and more compassionate human. She has this way of telling her own stories that makes me want to say “omg, let me tell you about this one time..!”
I’m a huge Gabrielle Union fan and appreciate her stories of being a 40-something black woman in America. I definitely learned a few things. It was just that I learned a LOT about a too many things in this particular book that I rated it a 3. It’s a good listen in her voice.

Still a great storyteller and a writer, but these specific stories felt irrelevant. A lot of chapters felt like gossip.. I danced with Bruno Mars before he was Bruno Mars. I got wasted at my dad’s thanksgiving. It lacked depth for me or anything, a hook to keep me interested.
I couldn’t finish it. DNF 72%

Bravo Gabrielle Union for being vulnerable and sharing your fertility journey right at the beginning of this book. I really loved her first book, and the same can be said for this one. Her stories range from surviving rape to her step daughter’s gender identity to unwanted facial hair as we age as women to funny laxative mishaps. I remember that from her first book. She can make you cry, and then make you laugh hysterically in the next chapter. Gabrielle Union is so relatable, I recommend her book(s) to all women. Book challenge 2022: a memoir.
Gabrielle Union could write a book about watching paint dry and I would probably read it. I loved her first book, We're Going to Need More Wine, and definitely recommend reading it prior to picking up this one. The sheer openness and vulnerability she displays throughout this book is unreal. She talks about everything in her life: relationships, trying to conceive, motherhood, adulthood, the pandemic, parenting, her career - no stone is left unturned.
With autobiographies/memoirs, I always recommend the audiobooks and this one is no different. Union relayed her words with intent and the perfect tone that made me understand exactly what she meant.
I do advise the content of some chapters could be triggering as some chapters discuss: sexual assault, trying to conceive/miscarriage, racism.

Wow! I was stunned by this book- one of the best I’ve read this year. Definitely worth reading and rereading.
