Read as longlisted for the women's prize for non-fiction 2025. I was eager to get to this as I rarely read true crime and didn't know anything about the case.
Initially I was enthralled by the writing, but as I read on this dwindled for me. The book concentrated heavily on the perpetrator and not the victims, which didnt sit well for me. One of the core explorations was the role of the press during the time, which was initially interesting and I liked the parallel thread of Harry Proctor's career and personal life, but I felt there was no need for the Fryn Tennyson Jesse's side, it just irritated me and I feel it was randomly shoehorned for a female writers angle.
I wish there was more exploration or discussion on Kate's last point in the book, as it was an interesting reveal but overall this was little bit to late for me, as the pace slowed down and I lost interest towards the end.

I felt that the book was quite repetitive and drawn-out. It was ok, the new elements weren’t particularly interesting I felt.
