I really enjoyed this book. I think I may have enjoyed it more than the first book, but that one got 5 stars based on the fact I hadn't read a more classic fantasy in a while. Very fun twists and turns, we finally get a somewhat human face to the high lord. Love the lore reveal of the old magician enemies

I enjoyed the fact we got gay representation, but unfortunate that all I wanted to do was get back to Sonea. Love me a chosen one/more powerful storyline. Also what the hell is up with lord Garren? Man is like a more sneaky Fergun.

But yes, so glad sonea finally has an easier run without bullying, despite now learning about more black magic related things

Overall, very excited to finish this series and recommend to others

Again, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. After hearing lots of bad reviews of the series I keep starting the books expecting to be disappointed by the story.

However I will say that, though I enjoyed this book, it definitely suffers from second-book syndrome.

I quite enjoyed reading this, it was a solid read. At times I might have been a bit bored, especially because just reading about Sonea getting bullied literally all of the time was draining as time went on. I really enjoyed reading about this world but I didn't really care for the plot of this book. I liked it but the first one was definitely better.
