ok mixed feelings here. on a good note HOLY PLOT TWISTS MY GOD I WAS SHOOK. on a bad note the writing was so redundant. it was like you figured out something and then kiva’s internal monologue had to tell us it again 2 more times. it pissed me off too much to continue the series LOL

I am shook. All of the plot twists are at the end. At times the book got boring with too much internal dialogue of Kira going back and forth with herself so I started skimming through it to get to the actual dialogue. I love when Kira was telling Naari “you’re just a prison guard the king and queen won’t listen to you” and she was humbled

4.25⭐️ it was actually pretty good. I’m excited for the next one. I honestly guessed all the plot twists but that just means that the story went the way I wanted it to

I absolutely LOVED this book. For one, the premise felt new, but also familiar in that I hadn't read a story like this one before, but I had read some similar ones. I loved the idea of a death prison, and the politics were an underlying message. I loved how Kiva was able to power through everything, and I felt that Noni did an excellent and accurate description of stress devastation and fear. And the PLOT TWISTS WERE TWISTING! I DID NOT see the ending coming, but I felt it tied up the loose ends very well. All in all, this book is SUCH a good YA Fantasy and I think it should be read, if only for the themes.
