The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because of the heavy communication theory stuff at the beginning and end of the book. It's not the author's fault; this was written to be a communication thesis and I didn't realize that. I was expecting sort of a straightforward history of the show, which is not what the author is trying to do. I still enjoyed the book and I would recommend it. There's a lot of great information and analysis, especially around the reasons for the show's change in tone/quality and eventual cancellation. And I did manage to learn some things about communication theory. But I just want to put out a warning for the fan reader who just wants to read about the show that you might want to skip/skim the first two chapters.
