um what a wild ride?? i think?? I hate misunderstandings & I hate when problems could've been avoided if people just minded their own business, but here we are lol. I did feel super stressed at times because of all the risky behavior among the characters, but the ending left me unsettled and some readers enjoy that, but I am not one of them. Also, things seem to come out of nowhere at the end just to keep the story going as a failed attempt to make things remotely make sense. Some things were also unnecessary like *ahem* affair that wasnt an affair??? anyway, I loved the epilogue though! And I'm glad I gave Tarryn Fisher a chance, at least.

I want to preface this by saying that I don’t think this particular type of book was for me. So for people who enjoy being confused or in the dark for the majority of the book, you would likely give it 5 stars. I give it 4 because for what the book was meant to be, it was excellent. The lost star is just because I personally have discovered that it’s not a book I would like, and certainly not one I would read again.

Bearing that in mind, here is the rest of my review.

I was frustrated most of this book. I mean, I like books with mystery and surprises, which this book has. But I also prefer to have someone to root for. A good guy that I know I want to win, or at least live at the end to go to another story. But in this book, I found no person to root for. I didn’t particularly like any of them. Even the kid, who I understand is probably just going through the teenage rebellion phase, I didn’t like either.

And I was so confused!! The whole time.
Spoiler FYI, you do finally see the whole picture at the end. I think. But no one else in the book ever gets to know the whole picture, and that annoys me too! Juno even says in her note at the end that she was wrong, but she didn’t even realize just how wrong she was!!! Gah!!!

It moves pretty slow, in my opinion for the beginning of the book. Like, maybe 5 chapters. But then you get the hook that makes you go, “Ooo, what does that mean? What’s gonna happen now?” And you can’t stop reading, because you have to know.

So, like I said. This book wasn’t for me. Specifically me. That being said, it’s a good story, and the author definitely kept you gripped in trying to put all the pieces together. Which you can’t do until the very end.

4 solid stars. Even though it’s not a book I’ll ever return to.

This thriller had me hooked from the beginning, so suspenseful and dark. The narrator tells a story about these characters, specifically Juno and Winnie as we discover they aren’t who they seem to be. There are some wonderfully done plot twists which I never saw coming.

Type of read: Commuter (listened to and from work)

What made me pick it up: This was either on one of my book club lists or it popped up in my recommended books on my Overdrive app.

Overall rating: I loved this book! I haven't previously read anything by Fisher and this was one of those random suggested reads...and I'm very happy I added it to my TBR list. It took me about two chapters to get into the groove of how the book was written, with the chapters and the characters, but once I was in the groove, I finished the book within two days. Personally, I found it to be an exciting, unpredictable read. I feel it ended a bit unfinished but that just makes me want to check out more of Fisher's work.
