Wish I could have read this in Kannada because this was such an excellent translation I can only imagine how interesting and intricate it would be in the original language and context.

A short, immersive novella depicting a family in urban India whose financial fortune rapidly changed, challenging familial relationships as a life of hardship is supplanted by a life of leisure. To what lengths will a family go to protect newfound quality of life, even if it means ignoring clear warning signs? Ghachar Ghochar asks interesting questions about family loyalty, human will, plausible deniability, and the sacrifices one is willing to make to protect a certain expected quality of life.

I would give the book a 3.5. I liked it, but the dynamics displayed in the book weren’t particularly new to me due to my cultural background.
fast-paced

Hemingway-esque in an interesting way.

What an amazing novella! Mind-blowing! The ending is totally unexpected and I'm not even sure on what to make of it. It's an easy read but mind you it'll rattle you. As soon as I finished reading it, my mind has become ghachar ghochar. You'll understand if you read the book.
.
A must read!!!!!
I can't take my mind off it. And i feel agitated. But why? Oh god...

This is a novella about the impact of new-found wealth and the changes on the family. It takes place in India and is an accurate depiction of this type of situation. It is simply-written and though not a whole lot happens, you care about this family and hope the best for them and want to keep reading. The ending was thought-provoking and apt, though I think some will be disappointed in the lack of resolution.
