It was a really interesting book, far from my culture in Canada I found it incredible shocking. Such a casual talk of murder and misogyny so much acceptance. The family dynamic alone seems troubling and unknown to me. It was captivating!

Ghachar Ghochar is a beautiful tale of this Indian family living in Banglore and focusing on the fact that how badly money can affect family dynamics. The middle-class family gets a huge amount of money in a short period of time which completely turns their traditional routine. And when a newly married bride (whom we typically call an "outsider") joins a family and starts challenging the norms of the family. What is gonna happen? Definitely not something very pleasant!

124 Pages and the ending will blow your mind. This book touches on very important topics existing in our culture in a very simple and elegant manner, that will strike you very hard.
The entire plot has been narrated by the narrator who is the son of the same family. The narration is very smoothly balanced between the present and past maintaining the pace of events. Writing is so graceful. The author has dealt with each character in a genuine manner which dives us more into their psychology.
The events described are indeed very thought-provoking and are very common in our society (e.g women bashing other women, money factor affecting everything, the orthodox mentality and etc).
Read the book to know what happens in the ending!

A simple, compact story with fascinating family dynamics and slow-growing tension. I'm very impressed by how deftly Shanbhag was able to comment on the ways in which money isolates family members from each other and completely transforms their relationships, as well as their own perceptions of themselves and their worth. It's like the narrator says—money rules over us, not the other way around.

On the cover of the novel Shanbhag is called the "Indian Chekhov," and while I find epithets like these to be somewhat disrespectful to authors, I have to say I almost agree after reading the final scene of this story. It's really quite something.
