3.5 stars, but I'm rounding down because Pat annoyed me. Just kidding...well, sort of. I don't know, I guess I was expecting something more revolutionary with the whole ending, but it was just...okay. There were definitely some very funny pictures running through my head (come on, the Asian Invasion?! Hilarious!)and I really enjoyed the supporting cast of characters, but Pat himself got on my nerves. I'm definitely looking forward to watching the movie version, as I think Pat's quirkiness is something I'd find more endearing as a screen character than the narrator of a book.

maybe it's because i watched the film before reading the book (in my defense, i didn't know the film was an adaptation), but i don't think i've ever watched a movie that was so different from its source material. of course, the reasons the movie was changed ultimately made it better for film, but it was still startling to have such different experiences from things that are linked in this way.

pat peoples is a thirty-four-year-old man fresh out of a psychiatric hospital after a mysterious incident. he longs for his estranged wife, having developed good training habits at the hospital, losing a ton of weight, and reading the books on her students' english syllabus (having been called an "illiterate buffoon" for having watched more eagles games than read books).

matthew quick spins a heartwarming tale in a unique, likable voice.

This book is wonderful. I couldn't stop reading and finished it in less than a day. I'm sure many people have been picking this book up because of the movie and are wondering if it is as good as the film. The book is better; and that is saying a lot considering how good the film is. This is an amazing story filled with fantastic characters that I recommend to everyone.

this was stressful. i forgot ever watching the movie in the past, but the book really delivers how chaotic a person with mental health problems is because i felt stressed and anxious all around just reading about it. felt like crying to a little bit sometimes.

bottom line. i don’t feel sympathy for Tommy at all (he’s just a dirty sex addict that is good at gaslighting, bcs why would Tiffany be this pressed and scared of making arguments if he isn’t manipulative?) so I was sad that that part of the letter wasnt discussed further,, and given closure to?

A quick read, wasn't the best book ever, but wasn't horrible. There were a few very emotional moments as well as humorous. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the movie better than the book.

ONE MORE THING: I hate when books spoil to endings to other works. It is often a good thing to allude to another work as a way to enhance your own, but it should not mean summarizing another book. Just saying.

Okay, first things first, after about two or three chapters of this book it became evident that it is essentially the adult version of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, it even had like that happy and sad at the same time quote. That being said, it was a far more disappointing version of the book in my opinion, maybe this has to do with the fact that I am an not an adult, but I doubt it. Anyway, I've compiled a list of

Things you should know going in to this book:

1. It spoils at least 6 other books throughout its course (The Great Gatsby, some book by Ernest Hemingway, The Scarlett Letter, The Bell Jar, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and the Catcher in the Rye) most of which I was planning on reading, and am now less inclined to.

2. All those really great quotes on the cover? Don't get your hopes up, none of them are actually contained within the book.

3. If I had a dollar for every time the word "swanky" was used I would probably not have to worry about my college tuition.

4. If you don't much enjoy sports you won't much enjoy this book.

5. I think I actually liked the movie better, which is a hell of a bash.

6. The ending was not very satisfying.

7. It's fairly predictable.

8. Name choices, 0/10 (Pat, Jeanie, Tiffany, Nikki, Jake, Caitlin, did you mean ew bye)

Overall, it was just a mediocre book. I wasn't particularly enthralled with it, but it wasn't horrible either. Pro key life tip: about halfway through the novel I discovered it's more enjoyable if you picture pat and tiffany as bradley and jen, try it out friends.

I got through this book as quickly as possible, just wanted it to be over with. I despise the main character and don't really care for the writing style. Nonetheless, this book kind of enthralled me in some weird way.
