Gripping and hard to put down. A degree of predictability but plenty twists to keep you reading.

The author hinges this book on a phenomenon that is rarely spoken about - adult bullying, both woman to woman and woman to man. It's about an interloper in a tight knit group of friends, a woman who you, the reader, knows is playing the long con. But our main character Jane is so taken aback that a new addition to their running group could cause her best friend to turn on her, that she tries to turn the other cheek.
But then, Jane's husband Frankie begins acting strange. You'll guess what comes next, but by the time Jane discovers what a fraud Lexie is, but in the meantime she discovers who her real friends are (an older, wiser woman tells Jane, "never put up with bad men, bad friends. or bad coffee"). This review doesn't do it justice, so you'll have to read it to find out what a fast paced, intriguing read this is!

I've read a few books by S.E Lynes, loved her first "Valentina" and this one is just as good. Jane runs her own coffee shop, she's married to Frankie a plumber. Jane has been unable to conceive and has recently been told she is experiencing early menopause, she's devastated and has confided in her best friend Sophie. Jane, Sophie and their two other friends Kath and Hilary meet every Tuesday at a local running club "Runner Beans" and on Fridays they have a girls night at the pub. One Friday night Sophie turns up with a new friend Lexie Lane. Lexie is a few years younger than the group, she's tall, well groomed and Sophie is hanging off her every word. As the friendship between Sophie and Lexie deepens Jane becomes more and more suspicious of her. Lexie cannot be trusted, she's simply Toxic!.
The baby shower is fast paced and addictive reading, highly recommended.

Really appreciate the commentary in this thriller.
The Baby shower is a Thriller/Mystery book by author S. E. Lynes. It follows the protagonists' Jane and Frankie. What made me interested in this book was the synopsis. It is very ominous and builds the right atmosphere for this book.
The premise of the book starts when Jane's husband Frankie buys an expensive watch that makes him feel invincible. Frankie has a plumbing business and Jane works at the successful café she owns in Wimbham. Jane has a small but good circle of friends, that is until Sophie introduces Lexie to the group. The watch, the baby shower for Sophie, and other unsettling events lead to everything catastrophically spiralling down and down into depths Jane never thought she and Frankie would sink into.
It is a movie-esque plot that is filled with toxic relationships. Overall, the book was quite entertaining and an enjoyable read!
