I read this book in one sitting. It has everything you could ask for in a thriller/mystery.

I thought I had everything figured out and then another little twist would get thrown in. I couldn't put it down and was still a little surprised at the ending.

I LOVED this book for so many reasons!

Pros: Lynes is a brilliant composer of words, plots, and characters! Her writing style skips word repetition (huge pet peeve of mine), feels quite conversational, and drew me in to where I lost HOURS.

I was so wrapped up in the subplot that I forgot about the initial until Lynes tied them back together. Definitely didn't expect that!

I also related to one of the MCs, Jane, in the realm of infertility. I have the same exact diagnosis and was diagnosed at the same age, have mama issues, have been with my husband for more than ten years, and am very close with my group of people.

The infertility was warned to me as a trigger, but I honestly found it quite relieving to see it being talked about, especially my condition that's considered fairly rare. Everything about this is so good!

Cons: I have exactly one con and that's the ending. I won't spoil it, but will say most people will love it, as it's a happy one. I just was a little ruffled because life definitely doesn't imitate art here. However, it's a SUPER easy thing to overlook considering how beautifully and brilliantly The Baby Shower is written!

Conclusion: if you're craving a messed up story that pulls you in from the gate, THIS is it!

What Frankie thought was just a watch, ended up
costing him more than just 3,000 pounds. Will it cost him everything? From being something he thought he deserved, to bringing about everything he didn’t. After finishing up this one I had to remind myself to close my mouth. This was truly jaw dropping. The Baby Shower touches on the strength of friendships and marriages and the elements that can be detrimental to both. Will Jane and Sophie last when Lexie is introduced? Will Frank and Jane’s marriage endure when Natasha notices Frank’s new watch ? Relationships are tested and tough topics are tackled. Buckle up for this one friends. I thought I had it all figured out, well I couldn’t have been more wrong! The twists come like a tornado, and they blow you away! @susielynes made me laugh, love, want to fight, rejoice, but most of all her writing pulled me in and I had to know what was next. Fast paced, raw, unpredictable, all the makings a a great thriller.

Favorite Quotes

“And that’s what people like her do: they push you to your limit. They rob you of your life and then when you retaliate, what, you’re the villain?”

“And yes, there’s bigger things in life, but honestly, love, never put up with bad men, bad friends, or bad coffee. “

“How much we want to say sometimes. How little makes it out of our mouth.”

This book was brilliant! Even though I figured out the plot twist pretty early on, it didn’t make reading it any less amazing. The ending was so satisfying in more than 1 way! The only complaint I have is I’m American so I didn’t understand all of the slang but that’s my problem, not the books. Great read, definitely a new fan of S.E. Lynes! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this pre-release in exchange for my honest review!
slow-paced

DNF’d at 78%.

『• • • THOUGHTS• • •』

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Usually my firsts from the author is not good but this I would say was good. Initially, getting into the 3rd person POV was difficult and I couldn't find myself understanding her world. There were also additional POVs in the beginning that popped out of nowhere, with the time lapses it was also hard to understand the whole picture. It was a little draggy up till about half of the book. After which the pace quickened, it got better and I read it finish.

It did keep up to the thriller aspect because the second half had me wanting to read more. I was curious as to how it unfolds, even though it is quite predictable at times I found myself thinking otherwise. It also had a very important message in the book that I liked because of the relevance and it not being spoken much.

The dynamics of the small town was also nice to read. The friendships with one another, Jane and Frankie's marriage, it felt like a closely knitted community. A problem with those however is the inability to prevent gossip.

Overall, a good read that suited the genre. Quite forgettable but it was nice reading it.

I enjoyed the story but found it really predictable from the start. I also found some things quite questionable- the ending for one.
