Despite some giant waving flags including title and location within public library, somehow how I missed that this book is Young Adult. Now I'll go be sad that I am no longer considered a part of the Next Generation.

Basically a similar experience to reading other poetry anthologies that I've had, where a good handful of the poems fall flat and don't catch my interest at all, while others immediately grabbed my attention.

A real mix of styles and themes. The youthful energy in every single one of these shines through. I was not necessarily a huge fan of every single one, but I had some absolute favorites that I found. Not sure that I want to divulge them, to pre-dispose you. Maybe I'll amend this review with my favorites later.
A real bonus in this book is the mini-writeup on every single author in the back. Its like getting a second book. Some serious credentials here! My favorite inspirational part here was each author talking about their favorite/early inspiration.
The book did not have sectioned-themes, so from poem to poem you could really get 'shocked' via the next content/style. Just need to take a breath (anyway) after reading each poem.

As it turns out, I like the idea of this book more than I liked the book itself. The collection felt really uneven and themeless. While I like a few individual poems. The vast majority felt cold, shallow, or vague.

A great introduction to lots of new poets - I flagged a lot of new faves as well as some familiar faces. Excited to use this as a jumping off point.

Some of these poems would be definite hits for teenagers. A couple of them would have made me feel absolutely SEEN as a weirdo teenager with all the feels and a high sex drive. Some of them will no doubt baffle even the most poetic of teens. And others would definitely raise some eyebrows if parents or administrators got wind of them. But in general, an excellent anthology for misfit teens--so, all teens, really.

A solid collection with plenty of variety, these 100 poems are comfortably current. The diversity in content and form lends itself to at-random choosing of a poem (or poems) to read, and there is a feeling of presence on each page - these aren't the tired old guy poems of yesterday. Author questionnaires at the end of the collection add to the contemporary feel.

I want my poems to reach out and punch me in the face; this collection did not disappoint, and exposed me to more poets who I will seek out for further face-punching.
