I really enjoyed this.  It delivered everything you expect for an Urban Fantasy series and Ilona Andrews. The authors are great at working a strong FMC and an irresistible MMC. The action sequences are great and the stakes are always high.

A new urban fantasy series from author Ilona Andrews. A superb start to a trilogy in which magic dominates in a world much like our own (only feudal rather than corporate). Andrews is one of my favorite urban fantasy authors. This husband and wife writing team effortlessly merge fantasy into a modern, urban setting. There is always a hint of romance, but the romance doesn't dominate the story. In this case we see only the early fledgling aspects of it. A good read for a series that promises to be as good as Andrews' other work.

Let's just say I'm hooked. Like, helplessly hooked.

It's been quite some time since the last time I actually read paranormal romance that didn't come from familiar authors. I was intrigued since bunch of friend of mine keep recommending Ilona Andrews's books and then I start with this one.

Hoo boy, what a journey.

The story's flowing easily. Even when the author described the details of the world, it's fun to read them. This author has the classic pulling-the-reader effect that shows the level of writing. I simply enjoyed reading this book. It's like watching a movie.
Not to mention the crackling chemistry between Nevada and Rogan? Oh yes. At first I thought Rogan is like, boney-like, unattractive tall man. But then, boom. Nevada brought me to the reality of cool and handsome Rogan. Yas.

So yeah, overall what a grand entrance to my world. This is the first Ilona Andrews's book that I read and definitely not the last.

I can't wait to read the next installment of this series!
