The third installment of J.D. Robb's In Death series, Immortal in Death begins with Eve Dallas and Roark planning their wedding. I'm not sure I saw that coming, but can't really remember if they decided to do this at the end of the previous book. But in the midst of the planning, one of Eve's informants is murdered. It is discovered that this informant had also worked with another department in the PD, "Illegals," which refers to substances.

A second murder occurs, one that hits closer to home, as a world-famous model is murdered in the same fashion as the informant, and Eve's good friend Mavis is implicated. More than implicated, actually, she is the prime suspect. But Eve is certain that Mavis did not do it.

The investigation ensues, with one of the cops from Illegals "helping." More murders happen, same MO. Things really heat up in this one. As Eve works to clear Mavis and figure out who is doing this, more suspects come to light and things get really intense.

The last third or so of this book was pretty much unputdownable. And there's an almost Agatha-Christie-like twist at the end that I most definitely did NOT see coming.

Well worth the time to read, and I will likely continue in this series.
