Vacillating between 3 and 4 stars. 4 stars for really good story telling and love the various ways in her stories that show us the beauty and strength of Australia.
3 stars for the distracting part of Mia and Kieran coming home to help his parents pack up their house to move one parent to nursing home care and the other to a small apartment nearby. They hardly helped out at all but spent more time with their friends and the mystery.

Audiobook
Jane Harper writes another suspenseful thriller. Set on the Tasmania Coast, the story follows a group of friends who reconnect after Kieran Elliott and his new family come home due to his father's health condition. A murder in the present sets off a reconciliation of events in the past.
I was a big fan of her Aaron Falk series, so I finally listened to her stand-alone (I had it in the book version a few months ago from the library but never got to it). Small town generational who-dun-it set in a coastal Tasmania town. Not bad - the finale was a letdown from all the setup, but enjoyable.
Happy to hear this is going to be a Netflix show soon!

Enjoyed reading it, towards the end couldn't put it down, I had to find out if what I was thinking or guessing was correct...and whilst I thought one character had a secret to hide I was close in that regard, but overall all the other red herrings had done their job, making me think it was going to be one thing, and turned out it was not.

Couldn’t help but find this very similar to Harper’s other books (maybe that’s on me for reading all of them within a year of each other, but man does this author love a “man with tragic and misunderstood past returns home to small town as another tragedy unfolds” plot device). Took a while to get into it but once the scene was set I couldn’t put it down.

I did enjoy the majority of the book, but the build up was slow, and the ending did not land as strongly for me as it could have. It did have a big surprise that I did not see coming, so overall it was a good read.

I love this Aussie thriller writer.
This is a great mystery, and I definitely recommend it for anyone who likes a good mystery.
