2/3 was “my feet hurt” - albeit I still could not put it down, 1/3 was super juicy. The conversations between the walkers was really the highlight for me. Would love a whole other novel prequel to build this world!!!!

Edit: changing my rating from 4 to 4.5, I cannot stop thinking about this book

Wish there was more explanation here to why and how as opposed to just character building.
This book just didn't go anywhere for me

The Long Walk is an incredibly dark and disturbing story about an annual competition in which 100 young men walk across New England in a dystopian United States. The physical and mental  breakdown of the participants over a 5 day period slowly reveals the consequences of resistance and the circumstances that drive entry into the Long Walk. The reader is immersed in the walk itself,  with minimal exploration of the history of how it was established. It is true horror without supernatural elements.
*Note: The Long Walk was written in 1979, so there are some dated references and language.

The digital edition included an additional unrelated story about a man accused of a murder he didn't commit. I found this an enjoyable bonus after such a heavy read.

This was an unnecessarily long book talking about a long walk. Threw the book when I read the last sentence. I'm being generous with 2 stars. I think I'll be done with King books for good.

"Queer, not queer, that didn't seem to matter now that they were all busy dying."

Wow
I really enjoyed this book.
It starts a little rocky, (One of the first things our mc does is talk about his mom's breasts), but it picks up.
You know going into it that most of these characters are going to die, but it's hard not to care about them. All their stories and personalities were really well thought out.
And it's funny and witty. And the gore isn't so extreme that it turns you away. It's so well done

"Our father, which art in tinfoil,
hallow'd be thy name."

Rest in Piss Barkovich

This is Hunger Games before Hunger Games so you have to place your mind in a time before you read or saw that series.  I'm not a huge SK fan, but this one was great.

I likely never would have picked this up if my good friend hadn’t recommended it. I generally like dystopias, but I would have liked a bit more world building and getting to know the backgrounds of the characters. This is my first Stephen King novel though, so maybe that is typical for him. All in all, worth the read!
