Haunting and gruesome. The way Stephen King can dive into a characters psyche and walk you through all of the pain and emotions is incredible. Probably one of the most terrifying books of his I’ve read.

Creative survival scenario. Very character driven which i enjoy most about King's books and you will feel sad about these boys. Takes the strange concept and explores it thoroughly; reading it while exhausted at work really made it come to life. Depiciton of minorities is very dodgy, though you can see the author is not hateful, just stereotypical.

A really good character study with a horror veneer. This book is definitely one of the more approachable of King’s works. A group of boys enter a competition to walk without stopping for as long as they can. If they try to run or if they slow down or stop a certain number of times they will be shot. The longer they walk, the more they realize what they have agreed to; as more of them die the more the horror of their situation sets in. I really liked it. It was a super easy read, with very heartbreaking moments and a slow decline into madness.

This book should have been boring (just because it is about walking and nothing else or so I thought!!) but it was good and had me sitting on the edge of my chair every time I picked it up! It was just so good! It was not just about the walking because the boys had so interesting conversations with each other and Garraty's thoughts was also so interesting all book long.
