I loved the majority of this book. The atmosphere that the author created was so immersive and terrifying.
I found myself surprised by how much i liked Ezra’s character - that being said - i do agree with other commenters who have said that it’s frustrating when a feminist story is so reliant on a male character.
Unfortunately I didn’t like the ending.
Personally i’m just really not a fan of the “killing my oppressor will make me just as bad as he is” trope. Like girl, just GUT HIM

I listened to this on Audible in the span of a single day. I couldn’t stop listening, I was completely sucked into the story. I’ve heard this described as Salem witch trials meets Handmaiden’s Tale and I’d say that’s pretty accurate.

This might not be for everyone, it’s not a fast paced book but I savor slow burns like this. The slow, creeping dread that this book builds is masterful. I can’t believe this was a debut with how well executed everything was.

Alexis Henderson may be one of my new favorite authors. Her writing is immersive and atmospheric. Her world-building is lovely - it leaves the reader informed but wanting for more details (different book but I would love to know more about the world of House of Hunger). She also deftly handles tough topics like sexism, classism, racism, religious trauma, etc. I can’t wait for whatever she writes next!

I really enjoyed this read. I was hooked immediately and couldn't put the book down once I started. The pacing was well done and I really enjoyed the story and the mystery.
