IT WAS SO GOOD!!! One of my favorites this year. So so moving.
I love the prose of this book so much that at times I had a difficult time progressing past particularly poignant chapters. Just the description of the wrinkles on an elderly woman’s face were beyond marvelous.
Gyasi cemented her pace in my “favorite author of all time” with this book.

I really enjoyed this. It was beautifully written, especially the parts about working through religious trauma. I think it should have ended earlier somehow, or in a different way, the ending felt a bit abrupt and unexpected.

Filled with so many tender memories and little details, how could this novel be anything but real?

Yaa Gyasi is a very talented young author who I will definitely continue to follow. This is an internal and personal novel exploring emotional health, family, community, personal relationships, drug addiction, spirituality, science, and inter exploitation and healing. Highly recommend both Transcendental Kingdom and Homegoing.
Unbelievable. Wanted to read it again the minute it ended. Such a beautiful look at faith and science and trying to make sense of the intangibles of both. LOVED.
