I have no favorite people at the 667 Dark Avenue High Rise Apartments. I hate them all, but especially Jerome Squalor. Esme Squalor is a greedy idiot, and deserves every reader’s disdain, but Jerome Squalor displays enough basic empathy (low bar, here) for all of us to know and understand that he could be a hero in this story.

Because he actively works to avoid controversy for the sake of “peace”, because he willfully ignores signs of distress and actively declines opportunities to do the right thing, because he has the power and nature of decency and wastes it, I hate him most of all.

Lessons learned: If every floor has one elevator, and you find a lone second elevator on the top floor, question that shit immediately. Humans feverishly bowing to style trends are a little like a dog chasing its own tail. You’ll catch it, but are you really getting anything? If you’re a good person, but reject personal responsibilities and second-hand opportunities to do good because you don’t like to stir pots, you’re actually a terrible person. A leading contributor to the very worst of our society.

Listen to and believe in children why is this so hard

And uh, just a side note. Poe came off as mostly stupid until this point, but I now believe he’s got to be part of this conspiracy. You mean to tell me you willingly took a promotion to assist orphans, came across some valuable tip that the kidnapped children you’ve been searching for were currently enslaved in a glue factory, and your ass made a little stop on the way to save them for a decorations auction?!

Bruh, YOU are the villain of this story.

**backdated to exclude from goodreads challenge due to length—Counting the first 6 books as one novel, and next 7 as another. 6 down, 7 to go**

These books just keep getting more and more frustrating (in a good way)!
