The villain is still fiendish and the Baudelaires are still tragic but not so much that I had to take a break in between books. Tim Curry does a bang up job.

There is a character named Esme Squalor. Love the nod to Salinger. A witty book, like all the others in the series.
Red herring: yes.
Gaslighting children: no. (Though that’s the point of the book, of course.)
(And I mean actual gaslighting this time; Jerome telling the kids they must be ill for believing someone who is disguised is, in fact, disguised)
I love the originality of the trends, but the storylines are still too repetitive for me. Still, that doesn’t mean I’m not sitting on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what secrets Olaf is still hiding.;)

So far the most dark and depressing adventure of the Bodelaires. Although, I love that these books teach new words, phrases, and parts of speech to children.
