The Ersatz Elevator

Well, this one really was interesting.
It will really take you a bit before you figure out where exactly this is going. Right when you think you've got it all figured out, one huge plot-twist comes along. The fire in which the Beaudelaire parents were killed becomes even more mysterious. We don't learn anything new about the circumstances but by now it's clear that something huge had been going on there.
I'm super excited to get my hands on the next book as I have no idea what to expect now!
As you know, Lemony Snicket's novel feature adorable illustrations, amiable characters and a great sense of humor. I already covered that in the reviews on the first few books, so I'll not repeat it all right now.

The Ersatz Elevator is so thrilling, you will find yourself holding your breath on several instances. The story gets even darker and more mysterious!

I swear these books get better and better. And I’ll never tire of how Olaf manages again and again to cater himself a disguise and plot his devilish plans to steal the children’s fortune. A set up where getting used to at this stage being six books in!

This book sees them in the keep of Mr and Mrs Squaller, an incredibly rich couple with an incredibly big apartment ! Mrs Squaller is obsessed with what’s ‘in’ and what’s not, and sadly, elevators are not in. The 667th apartment suddenly feels very far away…

Dealing with the fallout of the last book, the siblings are consumed with worry for the Quagmires and fervently hope they’ll be found. But they have many things to face and more attempts from Olaf to foil. Will they live to face another book…?

I’m invested in the whole series at this point so onto book seven I go!

Really more of a 2.5. Not as interesting as books 1, 2, 3, and 5, but not as miserable as 4. I'm halfway through the series and at this point, I can either quit now or keep on until The End.

The problem here is that nothing interesting is happening. It's been 6 books, and so far collectively they're 3 stars out of 5. The good thing is they're less than 200 pages each, with each book getting thicker than the last.

In this book, it's the same formula. Orphans get passed to a new guardian, Count Olaf shows up in a new disguise, adults are incompetent and blinded, and Count Olaf makes a getaway in the nick of time. Like...really?

This one has been my favorite since the third book, [b:The Wide Window|438492|The Wide Window (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #3)|Lemony Snicket|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1320705923s/438492.jpg|1168377]. The wall between the narrator and the story continues to be brought down, and it seems as if all of the characters we've been introduced to so far play in the fire. Snicket tossed this one up a bit, and I think that's why I enjoyed it better than 4th or 5th book.
