Such a sweet story. I love that we didn't have to wait for long for the reveal. It could've been executed better, Dillon's immediate feelings toward her, but it was a nice reveal. There were some technical plot bumps in the story, but I don't mind it.

SpoilerThe main problem that hinders their union was the fact that Alyssa's not of noble blood and that Dillon's people feared her. Slowly they managed to get the people to like her (Robert, Dillon's brother was amazing and funny). And they discovered that Alyssa's unknown father is a Lord. In the end, they got married.

Audiobook was very pleasant.

I’m really glad that I started out with Duvall’s Immortal Guardians series. If I had started with this one, I don’t think I would continue. This book is absolutely fine. I think my expectations were just higher because of the IG series, but this was definitely lacking in something.
There wasn’t much happening besides the romance. I like a book that has both a romantic story AND an actual storyline. I did however really enjoy the settings and time period. She did a pretty good job of trying to make things realistic. I also really liked the idea of the Wise One and how she always has her hood on. Overall, not a bad story, but not Duvall’s best either.

You have to fill in the gaps a little, because it’s feels pretty insta-lovey. Its technically not, because they knew each other for 7 years before that…just not in a romantic way. But it definitely feels fast lol.

I was a huge fan. Very low drama, sweet and steamy

Alyssa’s grandmother is a wisewoman to Lord Dillon, and before him, his father. But as she has aged Alyssa takes over for her with no one the wiser since they are covered from head to toe in umbral robes. But one day, the jig, as they say, is up and she has some ‘splaining to do. And fast.

Ok, so I listened to this back in July of 2023. It was right after my mom died and I was so busy helping my brothers with her estate and the traveling back and forth from NC to OH took its toll. It’s now eight months later and I can’t really remember all the details. However, I do remember I was entranced and listening to the book made the drive fly by. I remember excitement, tension, danger, romance, steaminess, excellent dialogue, and ass kicking. Everything I expect from a Dianne Duvall book. And as a first listener of Kirsten Potter, I have to say bravo! All-in-all a great way to pass the time. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed this book a whole lot but every so often I couldn’t help but think that names like Dillon, Alyssa, and Meghan were probably not very popular in the 12th century.
