Wrapping up this series was bittersweet because I’ve enjoyed it so much, but Kristin Canary just keeps getting better and better! I wasn’t sure if she could top Alexis and Dax’s story since I loved their chemistry, but she DID! I loved Kennedy and Ryan’s story every bit as much!

This adorable age-gap, boss/employer romcom was clean, hilarious and cute! Contrary to the snark I loved in Alexis and Dax’s story, this story swelled with sweetness and a bubbly, happy kind of attraction between the two main characters who were similar in so many ways, making their story enticing and delectable!

Kennedy was a beautiful, strong woman who I enjoyed immensely. She’s been through some tough stuff in her lifetime and her character continued to deepen and grow after meeting Dr. Ryan and his nieces. I enjoyed her servant’s heart and her free spirit. Her personality won me over right away and I was totally cheering her and Ryan on, as they were well-matched with his generous, thoughtful personality. Their forced proximity was fantastic, creating the perfect amount of sizzling tension and flirty interactions which led to an exciting chemistry.

I loved Ava and Mila as secondary characters, their young personalities shown through in this story and added just the right amount of heart and fun. Kennedy and Ryan’s love for them was so heartwarming.

Overall, this story was so well-done! It had heart, chemistry, character growth, friendship, sisterhood/family bond, and one incredible amazing day date scene that I just loved! A definitely must read and the perfect ending to a fantastic series, that I must admit, I’m a little sad is over, though the epilogue couldn’t have been any more perfect!

P.S. DO NOT miss the bonus scene to this story, told from Ryan’s POV of a pretty hilarious scene in the book!

If you've jumping into Canary's California Dreamin' series before this is a must a read.
If this is your first California Dreamin' book, this is a great place to start!
Yes, it's part of the series, but it can be enjoyed on it's own. It's sweet, romantic, silly, and serious. I was rooting for them the whole time! And I want to go back and reread the series!

Reviewed from an eArc. Thanks, Kristin!

*I received a copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

Going into this book, I was not sure how I was going to like it. I loved book 5 in the series, and I was not super impressed with Kennedy so far. However, I should have known that because Kristin wrote it, I would love it. This book is my favorite one in the series! I am not quite sure how that happened, but Kennedy and Ryan will forever be imprinted on my heart!

I love how Ryan stepped up and took his nieces in. He has such a big heart. I LOVED getting to see this new side of Kennedy. She's independent, and I love how she did everything she could to connect with Ava and Mila. She loves those girls big, and I love how she fits into their family. The chemistry between Kennedy and Ryan is amazing!

This book will always have a special place in my heart. I can't wait to dive into Kristin's next series!

Content Warning:
-Mom with a drinking problem sent to jail for DUI
-Main character previously dealt with a serious illness
-Main character dealing with a manipulative family member
-Kisses Only
*This is a clean closed-door romance book.

Needing the Next-Door Neighbor
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Genre: Rom Com
Format: Kindle eBook
Date Published: 3/27/23
Author: Kristin Canary
GR: 4.55

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from Kristin Canary and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

My Thoughts: This is the sixth book in the California Dreamin’ series, however, it can be read as a standalone. I have not read the other books in the series, but I will be now. Kennedy is trying to get her life together after she ended a relationship, her career sunk, and she had to move in with her sister. Ryan is taking care of his sister’s children while she is in rehab. Trigger warnings of addiction, past cheating, cancer, and toxic relationships.

The story is narrated by Kennedy and Ryan, in a dual POV. I love the dual POV stories, it just gives a more balanced approach. This story follows a few tropes: forced proximity, age gap, and neighbor next door. Kennedy is strong, independent, and is trying to find her way. Ryan has his sister’s children he is balancing with a demand ER Physician job. The characters were perfectly created, they had depth, witty banter, amazing chemistry, and just brilliant. The author’s writing style was complex, swoony, humorous, creative, and just amazing. This story is the perfect end to an amazing series. I LOVED the ending, it was just the cherry on top. So sweet, endearing, and just tugged at my heart strings.

The entire series is on Kindle Unlimited. Some of the series has also been converted to audiobooks. I highly recommend picking up this book and the rest of a series. It is the perfect swoon-worthy RomCom, full of swoony love with bits of humor splashed in. A special thanks to Kristin Canary for being on the ARC team, it was such a joy to read this book.

I loved Kennedy and Ryan. They both had things to work through. Kennedy had to get out from under the notion of being like her mother. She had to trust the decisions she made and prove to everyone that she would be okay. Ryan had to accept that it was possible to have someone stick around for the long haul no matter the circumstances.

The close proximity just sweetened things all the more

Are you looking for a sweet and clean romcom to steal your heart? May I introduce you to Kristin Canary then because she absolutely SLAYS those?

This one follows Kennedy, Alexis’ younger sister (who we met in Engaging the Office Enemy). Kennedy’s life has always been a little hectic, and losing her mother and being stuck with an assy primadonna grandmother, I dunno how she does it. Kennedy feels like she isn’t enough, especially after a breakup with her ex that leaves her feeling less than herself. She’s trying to do something with her life and to find meaning for herself while she’s still young (she’s barely in her early 20’s!!!). Enter the hot doctor next door who just so happens to need a nanny!

Ryan Rosche is the temporary guardian for his two nieces and he’s also an ER doctor, so with his work schedule, he needs help with a preschooler and teenager. So not only do we have an age gap, forced proximity because she moves in, we also have forbidden because they want to keep it professional for the sake of the kids and to not prove her grandmother right.

With all of that said, there is such a slowburn where you just want them to kiss or hug or interact!! And that’s okay!! But I truly wish we would have gotten more. More time of them together, more time with their interactions, and more time watching them grow together. Knowing that it’s the last in this series makes me sad because we won’t get that - but the epilogue definitely wraps up their story, as well as all of the other characters we saw in this standalone interconnected series.

Thank you to Kristin Canary for an ARC of this in return for an honest review!

This is the perfect wrap up of this series, and I can't wait for the spinoff series with princess chloe!

I love the growth we see in Kennedy in this book, and learning more about the quiet private doctor next door after all the references to him in previous books. A sweet wrap up and happily ever after for the whole series.

Definitely recommend, and while it's not necessary I do recommend reading the books in order so you know and love all the characters in the book.
