I love Buehlman's other books. His prose is really enjoyable to read. This book is basically Lovecraftian 14th century religious weird fiction set during the black plague. That description doesn't really do it justice but it's the most accurate I can come up with.

If you put Bloodborne, Darkest Dungeon, Fear & Hunger and Pathologic into a blender you would get this book. Lone wolf, brooding father figure? Religious trauma? Eldritch horror? Absolutely brilliant 10/5 stars
