While this isn't the most groundbreaking book I've ever read, this book was one that shook me to my core while also providing a good and steady storyline. The first thing liked was the entire plot of seeing Charlie's life, thoughts, and feelings through his entire freshman year of high school. From the descriptions of his family, friends, and days to his thoughts and emotional spirals, I found the plot to be very well-written, easy to get into, and is an amazing concept that is executed beautifully. I also really liked the format of Charlie's letters. The format of the letters telling the story instead of regular chapters really add to the story since they 100% make the story feel like it's actually written by Charlie, and therefore, sound more emotional than it would've been if the book was told from the first-person point of view of Charlie. I also really liked the characters. I really liked their personalities and growth throughout the book, and I couldn't help but love them. However, there was one thing I didn't like: the pacing in the middle. As well executed as the plot is, I did find the pacing to be kind-of bad in the middle, since not a whole lot was going on then. It was mostly just a bunch of descriptions. Fortunately, it got out of this, and the last part was plenty interesting. Overall, this was a great, emotional story, and despite some bad pacing, it's still amazing.

I don't really know what I was supposed to take away from this book. It read like a teen tv show from the early 2000's where there isn't really a plot, but you follow teen characters. Charlie was right on the line of being adorable and obnoxiously naïve. Granted, he is 14, but still. It was okay, but I think I'll enjoy the movie better.

I have loved the movie for a very long time. When I first started reading the book, I was worried I wouldn’t like it as much as I love the movie. But I ended up loving it so much.

I’ve never connected to a character more in my life. I’ve seen the movie more times than I can count and this is definitely my new favorite book.

There is just something wonderful about the story. It feels so real. I’m so happy they added another letter to the end of the book recently. That letter was so beautiful.

Loved this book as a teen. Reading it as an adult was very insightful and giving it a 5 star due to the emotional impact of the 20th anniversary edition
