If you're looking for serious scholarship--this is not the book for you. If you're looking for a totally fluff pop history book-- this is not the book for you. If the title doesn't sound fascinating-- this is not the book for you.
If you made it past those gauntlets, then this is a wonderful easy-to-read and beautifully illustrated book filled with curious tidbits I will be coming back to.

Had such fun chatting about this book with my friend who is a medievalist. This is excellently researched and well written. No qualms in recommending it.

Good book, but the Middle Ages are such a diverse and vast time period that it's hard to give a comprehensive overview. Props for also referring to Jewish and Muslim sources, though. Illustrations were gorgeous, narrator went snarky at times. The chapter on genitals was an odd one, though - I guess the author mostly found sources on the female reproductive system?
