such an amazing storyteller - and like all great story tellers not only is the story interesting and captivating and you love the characters but there is under it all a bigger story/narrative - in this one that talks of land, ancestors/history, colonialism and self determination.

I will admit I much preferred The Marrow Thieves, but this was still a good book. Dark and gritty (and also confusing) but certainly compelling.

somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4, something didn't really click for me until about 60% through the book. the story line is super interesting and i love anything cult adjacent but i feel like this was missing something for idk

Cherie Dimaline’s writing is my absolute shit. So many quotable lines! I loved the incorporation of indigenous folklore and the connection between capitalism and religion.
