my comprehension skills when it comes to poetry is nearly nonexistent but rumfitt is honestly a great writer in fiction AND nonfiction.
this is short and quick, but it packs a punch that’s for sure. it’s poetry centred on transness, on vaginas and it’s a critical think piece on margaret atwood and the handmaid’s tale.
having recently read the handmaid’s tale, and loved it for what it was, i really appreciated the critique that rumfitt throws at it. it creates a new perspective on the handmaid’s tale by poking holes into the very binary way atwood views the world/gilead. it’s also critiquing atwood in general, i don’t know anything about that woman, but rumfitt is making some fire points here.
generally, i loved this. it’s interestingly formatted, the topic(s) are relevant and pushes you to think. i was scared i wouldn’t like this, because poetry is scary, but this is weirdly accessible! a must read.
