On The Edge Of Gone by Corinne Duyvis is a near-future science fiction disaster story that takes place on Earth. The primary draw I had to this story was that it featured an autistic young woman and I wanted to read about a character from a viewpoint I do not have much knowledge of.

There are a lot of great things going for the character building and realistic survival aspects. This is very much a character driven story with diverse people that make mistakes, act selfish, and struggle to survive.

While the book projects a sci-fi theme, the focus on characters will make this easy for hesitant or non-sci-fi readers to pick up. It is more like a natural disaster story that also has a spaceship. The end of the world is a backdrop for Denise and the other characters to bring their perspectives and struggles to the forefront. It does run at a slower pace, but I appreciated the story, the characters, and the realistic issues that are addressed.
