Not as good as the first one, IMO. The pacing seemed very slow and the friendship between Cadfael and Beringar to happen all of a sudden. The pace picked up in the last 30% of the book. Cadfael himself didn’t seem to play as integral a role.

Eh. The first one was a nice diversion but I've discovered I'm not actually up for a whole series. Nothing against the writing, which is just as good here.
