I received an ARC of the first chapter from NetGalley. There was not enough of the story to write a complete review since it was only one chapter, but it seems like it will be a great book to read.

ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange of an honest review.

I liked this one a bit less than the first book of the series. While it was still a really nice story, I didn't feel the chemistry between the two characters as much.

It's a bodyguard romance. After Gwyn is attacked near Joshua's home and he thwarts the attempt her brother, Thorne, hires him to guard her.
Joshua was wounded in the war and needs to use a cane to get around and he wonders at Thorne hiring him in particular. Gwyn is hiding her previous acquaintance with the man who attacked her and she asks Joshua to teach her how to shoot, he reluctantly agrees. At the last minute revealing that he is only willing to teach her to shoot with a bow, which he managed to logic/argue his way through and then naughty things ensue when she keeps having him demonstrate the proper form to her over and over as punishment for tricking her.
These 2 both have strong personalities, though his is angrier in general due to his wounds and loss of his military career and she holds herself closed off to people because of her past experiences.
This was a fun read, looking forward to Thorne's story.

I honestly did not realize this was only a chapter excerpt when I requested it from Netgalley. I tired to read it with an open mind and enjoy even though it was short. It seems like a good story that had promise. Exciting characters and a blackmail story I'm sure will lead into a relationship between her and her rescuer. All in all it had promise and one day I'm sure I will read the rest.

This was another fantastic installment in this series. I loved this just as much as the first book if not more. The storyline itself was so entertaining and exciting. But the real gem of the story was the amazing chemistry between Gwyn and Joshua. The two kept each other on their toes and was so well matched. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

The Bachelor by Sabrina Jeffries is technically the third book in the series despite what you might see on certain review sites, there was a novella that does not appear to be accurately represented. This is an interesting series as you're following the adult children of a widowed woman who happens to ultimately have three sons become dukes. The Bachelor is the story of Gwyn, twin sister of the Duke of Thornstock. She is finally making her debut in England at the ripe age of 30. Mostly due to her unique upbringing as a stepdaughter of an ambassador to Germany her return to England was delayed and she's certainly not a demure debutante. With threats still lurking from my past beau the Duke decides to hire a bodyguard. Who better to take on the task than Major Joshua Wolfe. Not only is he a known quantity he also happens to be a nephew of their mother. I told you it was convoluted you're going to need to look at the map at the beginning of the book to see how everyone is related. But I digress. Joshua is a war hero and fully prepared to protect Gwyn with his life. And keeping her close is going to cost him as he continues to grow fond of her. Especially when she has seduction in her mind.
I'm patiently waiting for the ongoing mystery surrounding the dukedoms to unfold.

The Bachelor (not sure why it was called that) was a fairly typical [a:Sabrina Jeffries|50886|Sabrina Jeffries|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1344970230p2/50886.jpg] novel. The characters had chemistry but didn't get along, there were secrets that the heroine had to keep, but the hero eventually discovered, and the families played a large role. I enjoyed it, though I was kind of expecting more information about the overarching plot and I was disappointed that
SpoilerGywn's concerns about having a child were kind of tacked on, and then easily resolved.
I also didn't realize that there was already a story featuring Heywood, so I was a bit confused by some of the references to Malet.

Side note: the cover is lovely (especially the colours), but with all the references to Joshua's (unfashionably) long hair...
