The writing style is very similar to the og novel and I liked this a lot! I looooved the interactions between Laura and Carmilla!! Laura's charecter is more fleshed out here and she does more than just narrating, and you can see Carmilla's love for Laura more here.
I liked how other aspects of the og novel were expanded on(Laura's backstory, her mother etc..)
tbh I preferred the ending of the og novel, Laura just wondering forever if Carmilla loved her or not, I love that kind of sad ending, but I liked this ending too, the final confrontation was soo tense I loved it

One thing I really liked about this version of the book over the other one is the fact it actually elaborates on things the classic book didn’t. Like Carmilla’s mother and the mysterious ball and what drove her to become a vampire. I really liked the author’s writing style too, the way she described the scenery and Laura’s home made it comforting. Also, what really made the book was the ending and is what drove me to give it 4 stars over 3.

I really did not know what to expect with this book going into it. I enjoyed the original Carmilla and very much looked forward to the premise of a rework with more of Laura & Carmilla's dynamic and focus on their relationship but didn't know how this would live up to it.

During the first few sections I wondered how different from the original the book was going to get, as Laura's daily life and Carmilla's arrival felt identical, but that didn't last long. I don't know if it's because it's been a year and a half since I read the OG, so the plot is losely at the back of my mind without detail, but this really did feel like a deeper dive into that original layer, which is exactly what I wanted!!

My only fault really is that I wanted more, I wanted to see more of the tension and relationship develop over time, more of Carmilla's history and of their love building before we got to them being together. But, this is only meant to be a shorter story and the ending was incredible so I can't be too mad about it.
