I think this is a great book. This is the first of Chetan's work that I have read. I got to know who he was while watching Nach Baliye 7 (winners:Amruta and Himmanshoo - who were also my favourite colour). I think he's an amazing and truthful judge, dont understand why he gets picked on so much when he's only being honest, i'm also an honest person and I totally get him. I wanted to see if he's a good writer, I did watch 2 states and thought of it as an okay movie but I didnt know that it was based on Chetans real life story so maybe the book has better details or a spark. I did really enjoy reading this book, it did not bore me. I'm too young to actually relate to this book as a whole as i havent entered the 'real world' yet but I see the truth behind the main concept/idea and not just people in India but everyone face such difficulties. Many people judge others based on what they see but no one really knows what is going on in the inside. Sometimes life is going by smoothly and all of a sudden that one 'bad day' comes and absolutely nothing does right. Disaster after disaster. I did not really understand the ending of the book to who the lady/narrator was that told Chetan the story when on the train to Delhi. So if anyone could explain what happens/who that person is/why chetan was shocked when he realized who she was (since she wasnt radhika/esha/priyanka) is that would be nice so i actually understand the ending?! The whole Americans are dumb reference did not bother me mainly because I'm Canadian and Americans are known to be selfish/rude/always picking on Canadians for "being too nice". Honestly Chetan this is a great book, and I think you're a great man (whatever your doing is right) and I support you 100%. I don't get the low ratings or the weird comments below. I'd personally rate this book a 3.8/5 (in middle of like it and really like it).

I read this novel back in high school because the concept sounded really interesting and I wasn't disappointed. It's about six people working at a call center in Delhi and the struggles that each one of them face.
Although I don't find Bhagat to be a great writer, I found this book to be enjoyable. I liked Esha, Radhika and Vroom but had difficulty realting ti Shyam and the way he describes Priyanka made me wonder why he loved her in the first place.
Even though I don't think this is an amazing book, I gave it 4 stars for the new concept and because it was better than the author's other books.

One night Chetan gets on a train where he has an encounter with a mysterious woman.

She proposes to tell him a story about a group of workers in a call center, with the only promise that Chetan will turn the story into a book. At first he refuses, but his curiosity wins him over and he accepts the proposal, even at the risk that the story could be awful.

And then we enter the story, where our story teller is Shyam, a boy who from the beginning we realize that he aspires to greater things in his life, but he lacks that impulse that would help him achieve it.

We also explore the lives of the other workers, how they intermingle, how they all help each other, and try to advise to each other, even when each individual's life is on the brink of disaster.

I really liked how each character was presented, with their complexities, problems and virtues, and as we read I can assure that no end is loose.
The whole story takes place in one night (a really hectic night), where the course of everyone's life will take turns of all kinds (surprising, funny, distressing), in short, a roller coaster of feelings.

And the final twist, that female representation, is undoubtedly the cherry on top.
