This series has lagged in parts, but this volume was excellent. I'm really excited to keep reading and see where things go from here. And now, my favorite line:

"Doc, when I tried to build one of those baking soda volcanoes for the second-grade science fair, I nearly blew off my own testicle. Is there any chance we can dumb down the technobabble about a thousand percent?"

I really sped through this one. The story continues to develop in ways I really enjoy and a lot of the art was even more impactful.

Capped off my Dr. Mann's discovery of how Yorick and Ampersand were able to survive the plague, this issue also provides some surprising reunions and we learn more about the ninja who's been tailing Yorick's party.

This was my first book taken out from the Minet Library, near Camberwell. Wish I'd joined earlier!

I’m giving the rest of this series a pass, for many reasons, but if you’re more forgiving of this odd-to-me, possibly normal-for-comics pacing and plotting, I say go for it.

In the fifth volume of the saga of the last man alive, Yorick, Dr. Mann, and Agent 355 finally make it to San Francisco. Yorick gets some but loses more.

This volume had some twists. Yorick meets another Beth, loses his Beth's ring, and people are after Ampersand, who may just be the key to saving humanity. BKV and Pia Guerra continue pushing the series forward. We're now at the halfaway point and I have no recollection what happens in the future so the thrill ride continues. Yorick and the gang continue developing as characters and exploring new corners of the new world. Fun stuff.

This whole series has been very well written and drawn. Can't wait to read the rest! This one should have lasting implications for the remainder. Didn't feel short, but I flew through it.

Halfway through and I'm still completely hooked on this series. I just need to get more of the books because I hate the long gaps that I've had between them. Reading 4 and 5 back to back was nice though (yay Christmas). I liked how volume 5 had some lighter moments. The thing I really enjoy most about this series is the humanity of it and everyone struggling just to be human and what that means and where they all fit in without the men around who have defined things for so long. I love that Yorick is far from perfect (as we get a good sense of throughout the series and especially in this one) and that he's a wisecracking, movie quoting, magician.
Spoiler I was really worried something bad was actually going to happen to him for a second because that would've created an interesting twist in the series. But alas poor Yorick is fine.

I like that more characters are being added all with different valid reasons for defending what they believe in and what new world they want to create. I also like that we got to know more about Hero, especially after I wrote her off in volume 4.
I really have to get my hands on the second half of this series stat.
