I can't even count the number of times I had to pause to catch my breath or contemplate what just happened. This kind of had the feel of wading in a very rocky mountain creek.

From my understanding, the series was initially planned to be a trilogy. Starting the fourth book, I noticed that the story didn’t feel as “tightly woven” as the first three. However, the historical research and characterization were still stellar. I’m fascinated and invested in the characters and eager to know what happens to them, and understand these time-portal stones better, so I shall continue reading.
