OHMYGOSH. I crushed this in a day and am so full of feels. I tested up, I LOL’d and I absolutely swooned. I so so enjoyed this. Even more than Eve and Sawyers story. And absolutely cannot wait for Law and Maya.

2020; Forever/Grand Central Publishing

Please note that while this novel can be read as a standalone, you will miss some of the background things that are discussed in book one. Nora Wright needs a reset on her life after her long time boyfriend cheats on her. She comes to Matchmaker Bay, a small town, desperately in need of a doctor. In leasing the office for two years, she can save up to buy a place with her sister and bring her student loans down a bit. The house she rents is a bit better than a hovel but she meets Jake, who steps in to fix some of her problems. Jake's son, still a baby, lost his life and the pain has Jake hitting pause on his own life. Jake feels comfortable with Nora, as much as he can be with people, and soon the two are helping the other heal with a friends with benefits kind of relationship. But soon they find they have more than physical feelings for one another. Will they risk the pain that comes with loving and being vulnerable?

Paradise Cove is not the light read you will expect. This novel has realism, like [b:Mermaid Inn|45677157|Mermaid Inn|Jenny Holiday|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1557324155l/45677157._SY75_.jpg|70436976], so there are heavier topics. I think it really adds to the story and characters. The heartbreak the two characters go through is so gut wrenching because we have all gone though loss and break ups. It was a great read and I am so excited for Law's story next with Maya.

I am so glad we got Jake's book! I needed his story. I knew this one wasn't going to be as light of a read as Mermaid inn because of Jake's past. But there was still humor and lots of heat in this book.

Jake is a grumpy handyman. I mean not an actual handyman but he fixes everything! He has a close group of friends but doesn't talk much. I loved him. He may not have been talkative but he was an incredibly sweet man. Nora is a city girl who wanted to switch up her life. She met Jake while he was getting his hair braided.. Honestly one of the cutest "meet cutes" I've ever read.

This book handles a pretty tough subject extremely well. The feelings were sincere. I personally haven't gone through what Jake did but I could feel his emotions. Jenny Holiday did a phenomenal job making the characters real. She was able to mix raw emotions with enough humor to make this book the perfect balance.

I 100% recommend this book and this series. And honestly anything this author writes.

Thank you to the publisher for the advance copy!

Solid story. Not exactly a second chance in the traditional sense but it is a second chandler for each of these characters.
It is a good look at grief.

3.5. I really enjoyed this one. It's so well written with very likeable characters. There's a lot of talk about grief and TW about the death of a child, which is revealed pretty early.

And here's the spoiler.

.

I'm not a fan of oopsie pregnancy storylines. This one was a little too much, a little too pat. I liked it in this story okay...in that I chose to look past the twee lack of believability. The timing of the story also hops forward a lot, which I didn't totally dislike but was occasionally disorienting.

Overall, the story was fun and a very satisfying read.
