I won a copy of the advanced reader's copy of this book through the Frist Reads giveaway contest, so I'd like to thank Simon & Shuster for the book!
This novel is well written and cleverly put together. Within its 337 pages, Gemini made me laugh and cry, it broke my heart on multiple occasions and at the end left me somewhere between pleasure and grief. Despite some of the unhappiness in this novel (which does have to appear somewhere in every novel otherwise it would be like reading a boring story written by the Brady Bunch), it was a delight to read. I feel that because I found myself so emotionally attached to the characters that I felt heartbroken, is a sign that Gemini is a worthy novel.
Gemini contains two story lines, and while one connection is obvious there are some surprises the further you get into the story. Because I was so interested in what was going to happen to the characters, I had to stop myself from skipping forward a chapter or two. It is a memorable story and it is definitely a novel that I will be recommending to my friends and family!

I don't know what this book was trying to do, but it didn't really do anything for me. The plot stretches credulity, and I didn't connect with the characters--I actively disliked Eric. The story was enough to keep me interested throughout, but it was quite predictable; it seemed I was always at least one step ahead of the characters.
My favorite thing was really the setting. I vacationed last year in the area of the Olympic Peninsula and Seattle, so it was fun to truly be able to picture those places and to have felt the distance between them. This is a passable book, a little melodramatic, but not a bad read.

This is not like any type of book I would normally read, but I am really glad I picked it up at the library. I had no expectations going into this story but I actually became really attached to the characters. The story was very full and well thought out although I am, once again, frustrated with another ending. I find that a lot of the time with the books I read, the ending feels very rushed as if the author got tired of writing and just slapped an ending on it. While everything pretty much came full circle, I was left with a few questions at the end of this novel. I know that it's nothing out of the ordinary for authors to do, but I would have liked to get a bit more information on a certain someone's fate, and instead the ending focused more on the budding family.
Apart from the ending, the writing is pretty great and it is a pretty quick and easy read. I enjoyed the fact that the author didn't really skimp on the medical aspect of this story - the terms, the imagery, and Charlotte's inner monologue kept me interested throughout, even if she wasn't the most "likable" character. I clicked with Raney's story at the very beginning, but was pretty bummed to see the way that things had turned out for her in the end after everything seemed so promising.

This novel had a number of story lines. Genetics, medical drama, backwoods living. All of these themes were very well written and played out nicely. The characters developed coherently and I enjoyed reading the story unfold from the viewpoints of several different characters. I really enjoyed Cassella's writing style, it flowed and was consistent, I didn't find myself questioning the plot and where it was going. The pace was wonderful and suspenseful, kept me turning the pages!
The outcome of Jake seemed a little too easy to me, considering all the doubts Charlotte was having over her future with Eric. My only other qualm is that I was convinced Cleet was still alive and would come back at some point in the book. I thought he'd left Raney the legal information for some darker reason. Alas, that was not the case.
I enjoyed reading this novel and would like to read some more of Cassella's work. I would recommend this book to friends, especially coworkers. I'll be passing it on to my mom next.

I received this as a free giveaway from goodreads. Although I did enjoy this book, it took me about 1/3 of the way before it started to really pull me in. It was interesting to see how she intertwined these characters lives. I would look into reading other books by this author.
The writing in this book was truly beautiful. There were so many passages that just begged to be read aloud, rolling off the tongue like they were born to be words spilling out of your mouth.
There was a delicate balance between love and heartbreak that ebbed and flowed through each chapter. With every little mystery solved I caught myself gasping or holding my breath, waiting.
The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because I felt a little bit of it was predictable. I felt like I caught on somewhat early on how the stories were connected. But aside from that there was still a decent amount of mystery that I didn't catch on to.
I've also found myself reading a lot of this style of writing where chapters rotate between characters and I'm really loving it. I love the how you get to see the story from all sides, almost like you are reading two different stories that just connect. I highly recommend this to anyone!
