đź’• I love a book with 2 intertwined storylines. In this case, we have the same setting, a house, but different time periods. One, is 1646, and the other 2024. How the author goes from one to the other unravels the mystery of the 1646 journal found in the house in 2024.
This was my first audiobook and I’m still uncertain as to how I feel about that. However…
I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Ursula, the “witch”. A strong, independent, capable woman, something which would have been an anomaly in 1646. And naturally, this caused her to become a target.
Adrianna’s story was a modern day mystery. But also  a modern day view of the same male-female relationship dynamics as 1646. How some things have changed and others haven’t.
There were many parts of Adrianna’s story that I enjoyed. And then there was a certain character that just made me angry, causing me to consider skipping that section every time he came on. How she allowed herself to be manipulated thinking this was love disgusted me. This goes to show you how even a smart strong capable woman can be easily duped.

Well good for all of them.

For me this book was much too similar to Wayward, in every way… a bit weird really. There wasn’t anything unique about it. I also found the protagonist to be quite irritating in how slow she was to catch on to her boyfriend’s behaviour. I mean it’s obvious from the very beginning to the reader. The writing isn’t subtle at all, you know he is a prize dick head right from the off, and I know when you are in these type of relationships it takes a long time to see through the fog… I know I be been in them… but I wonder if the writer has because to me it wasn’t very believable. I feel like she really struggled with the modern protagonist and her story but on the other hand Ursula’s story is woven with more depth. This is first book by this author and I wonder if she prefers writing historical fiction?
