Ooh another historical fiction author to add to my list
dark emotional mysterious tense

Only read the present day chapters, as the past chapters were a bit too emotionally intense for me.

Dual perspective from 1646 and 2024. Both stories speak about women’s resilience and strength in the face of adversity. I really enjoyed reading the intertwined plot and how it ended for both characters.

When an actor makes you “hate” them, you know they’re doing a good job. Clare Marchant managed to do that, but through writing. I do not “hate” the author, but the characters. It was hard to listen to the story when you know it is based on history (witch trials) and has elements of abuse. It was like listening to The Last Witch of Edinburg and Weyward again- the anger at the actions, thought, and behaviors of certain characters had me wanting to scream. Great writing, great story, but boy did it piss me off!

I’m a fussy ready I like it or I don’t. If it’s the don’t I won’t read it.
I struggled at first but thought it would be liked, thank god I preserved.
