It's okay. I found it really hard to focus on this one and never really connected with the characters. Like a lot of Albert's books, it felt like it had 2 too many sex scenes for me, and I ended up double speeding two of them to get through them faster as they were really repetitive.

Other than the homophobia from Jacob's family never being fully addressed, it's a fine book. I wouldn't read it again, but I also wouldn't not recommend it.

This was a fast-paced and fascinating look at smoke jumpers, firefighters who jump into wildfires and risk their lives in the craziest ways. Linc and Jacob had amazing chemistry, but Linc was holding back because of his promise to his best friend, Jacob's late brother, Wyatt. His loyalty to Wyatt was commendable, but also so frustrating, considering how homophobic and toxic Wyatt really was, going so far as to insinuate that Linc "turned" the younger Jacob. Once you got past that, it was a great story and a good start to a series about a fascinating job.

Pleasant if somewhat basic m/m romance read.

Content warnings include: homophobia, death of family members, best-friend's-younger-sibling/older-brother's-best-friend trope, age gap (~25/35), forest fire, parachuting, disabling injury, sex on-page.

If you want a romance between buff men who do high-risk jobs, Annabeth Albert is the author for you, and Burn Zone delivers exactly that. There's pining, there's "this is only sex, nothing more" (except it totally is,) secret dating, a bit of angst and a lovely HEA.
I loved the extra touch of family and shared history between Linc and Jacob, and their different perceptions of Wyatt and acceptance of those differing views was a complex addition that I appreciated - obviously Wyatt-the-older-brother isn't the same as Wyatt-the-best-friend.

The smoke jumping was interesting - I had no idea such a job even existed, and personally I would have liked to see a bit more basic information about what the job entails. It seems to be some sort of special firefighting devision that works on preventing and containing forest fires and includes a lot of parachuting to the important locations? I'm not 100% clear if that is the definiton on not. What was in the book was more than enough to follow the plot, though, I just like to know details.
The Rookie plot with Jacob just starting out as a smoke jumper while Linc has a lot of experiences and helps with the training by taking him in his team worked very well.

Linc being in the closet was handled respectfully, one angsty emotions-are-running-high scene aside.

Burn Zone is a shortwhile read and pleasing romance with a bit of adrenaline, dogs and muscled men holding babies. It doesn't particularly stand out but slots in seamlessly with the author's backlist and starts of a new loosely connected series. I'm looking forward to book two, which features a disabled pansexual smoke jumper, and I'm hoping to see more of the f/f couple mentioned on the side.

I received an ARC and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Annabeth Albert can do no wrong in my mind... Still this wasn't one of my favorites of her. I didn't get into it I think I just didn't catch the connection and the beginning seemed really repetitiously angsty. Also, the family was really like warm and I don't see them just coming around even if it was reluctantly.

A scorching hot read with a big emotional punch

Linc and Jacob have amazing chemistry and their story will hit you square in the feels. It's impossible to not become emotionally invested in their relationship, but also in them as individuals, too.

The peek inside the world of smoke jumpers is fascinating. Annabeth Albert creates a world with this new series that will have you eager to spend more time in it and with these characters.

Can't wait to read High Heat!

**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
I love this authors books. After reading her military series, I was interested in seeing what would happen with smoke jumpers.
Linc is an excellent hero. He is a gay man who keeps his sexuality under wraps. He’s not exactly closeted but he’s not openly out either. His best friend l, Wyatt, found out in high school and did not handle it well. They were able to move forward after Linc moved away for a time. Wyatts family has always been important to Linc, who came from a rough home. When Wyatts younger brother comes out to the family, Wyatt makes Linc promise to leave him alone.
Jacob has always had a thing for his older brothers best friend. But Linc will not give him the time of day. When Wyatt is killed and Jacob decides he wants to be a smile jumper, Linc tries hard to keep him safe.
I loved the twist on the older brothers friend/ younger brother trope. I loved the characters and even though he wasn’t in the story, I wanted to Bitch slap Wyatt.
The way these two connect and then the fallout is very well written. I can’t wait to see what she writes next.
