I LOVED THIS SO MUCH.

I’ll be maintaining for the rest of my life that Julie Berry wrote this book for me. Combining historical fiction, Greek mythology, and romance has got to be one of the most ingenious book ideas I have ever heard of. AND SHE PULLED IT OFF FLAWLESSLY. Truly, I was addicted from page 1 to the very end. I was so sad when it was all over. I want to take each character with me. The LOVE in this book was so pure and precious and profound. I don’t know what else compares at this point.

Also, I’m surprised this is YA? I never would have thought it was if not for the mortal main characters being teenagers. Nothing against YA—as I adore so many YA books—but I was a little shook. That being said, this is my new favorite YA. Just perfect.

This was a good book, with an interesting concept. I think the concept was better than the execution though. I loved the commentary on being black in America and in war - had not expected that. The characters were predictable and so were the story, which was not necessarily a bad thing, but I feel like the story could have been more tragic and realistic.

Beautiful! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this book. From first glance, I didn’t think it’d be something I was into, but couldn’t bring myself to put it down! Hazel, James, Colette, and Aubrey are the definition of comfort characters, and getting the privilege to even be a part of their love stories is truly remarkable. Their connections are immediate, and it’s heartwarming to see these young, pure souls fall in love in such a difficult and scary time in the world. Their support for each other through everything they go through is amazing to see, and is displayed in a way unlike anything else. Julie’s writing is beautiful, and I’ll be sure to check out more of her work! Highly recommend!
