This whole series is glorious - I know book 1 gets some flack and mixed reviews - but I adored it - and this book is the perfect next book in the series - I totally thought this was a duology so I expected a conclusion the whole time I read this book - but it set it up so nicely for another book - I can't wait to find out what happens next. I want one of her "pets", literally I keep imagining how it would be to control something like that and it's so fascinating. I love Tea she's one of my favourite "strong ladies" that I have ever read. Although I keep getting Kalen and Kance mixed up in my head - it took me a while to figure out what was truly going on - I'm unsure why in my brain they got mixed up - I love Kalen - I love her band of people - I love the past/future whatever flashbacks/forwards and I just freaking love this series !!!!!!!!!!

Struggling to stay engaged, more interested in timeskip plot than main plot

I just couldn't get into it and stopped picking it up. I'm just not really a fantasy reader so it started feeling like a chore to read.

Much better than the first book! No getting bogged down in clothes and jewellery; this book paced the action well. There were two "surprise villain" twists in the past timeline of the story - a very risky writing choice, with one seeded well (clues dropped along the way that make sense in hindsight) and one poorly (that one came out of nowhere in the bad, unhinted sort of way).

I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the third book, but it doesn't make me want to wax lyrical or anything like that. I love reading a book where necromancy is front and centre though!
