This book was a pointless creative writing exercise in violence towards queer people. Excruciating prose, subpar character development and very little plot line. Sexual assault so rarely elevates any part of a plot and this seemed to be done for 100% plot value.

This book had an interesting concept and incredibly poor execution. Definitely mind the content warnings (I probably missed some)! Prologue sets up a way more enjoyable/fun story than the book delivers which I think makes it even more disappointing

Poorly written.  Lots of things that didn’t make sense in the context of the story. Also just not my type of book.

Booo, I hated it. I am SO sick of male authors using SA as a plot device to show how “broken” a character has become. It’s just lazy. Nothing made sense and the lore felt half baked. The characters’ choices make no sense when we know what we do about their motivations.
Absurd that Ghost would choose to save the life of a perfect stranger he’s never met instead of bringing back his dead wife aka all he ever talked about other than the lady he met once. ALSO that part where he abducts Gemma’s daughter is just stupid and pointless.
This is not marketed as YA but LaRocca absolutely writes like a YA author.

Eric LaRocca is a potentially great novelist who's badly in need of a trad publishing editor. This reads like a great first draft, full of grammatical errors, fancy words used incorrectly, muddy plotting, and frustratingly foolish characters who take very little action and achieve nothing. With a year's polish at a proper house, this could have been Salem's Lot good, which is the book it most reminds me off. As it is, it's deeply frustrating.
