I was on the fence about this book. I adored the romance, and the middle of the book. But the beginning and end were pretty weak for me. But that romance really bumped this up.

This book was chosen for my sapphic book club, so I went out and bought the book. It had a cute cover, but the synopsis on the back made me cringe. I did not want to read monster porn.
Turns out, it was not only decidedly not monster porn, but I really enjoyed it! I found myself immediately enthralled by Shesheshen’s narration of a world that was not created with her in mind. I read it, highlighted passages, took notes, did research on biblical terms and name meanings.
The plot was filled with action and twists, but that wasn’t what made me like it so much. I fell in love with the humor and the depth and the characters. It was clear to me that Wiswell wrote every single word with intent. It wasn’t monster porn. It was a beautiful story of finding yourself, healing from trauma, and learning how to love.
I could go on and on about the metaphors and hidden meanings, but I won’t because I want you to go find them yourself.
