Candid. Captivating. Heartaching. Whit and Summer are a game changer. Murphy takes all of the preconceived notions of love and blows them sky high. Things I Wanted to Say is beautiful, broken, soulful. Murphy dares to be human instead of languishing in the fairytale.
Quit chapter 9.
It was boring. I’ve read 100 books similar to this and this one didn’t stand out to me. The writing was a bit immature. I also didn’t like how the characters were high school aged.

2 stars. I have got to stop falling in the trap of thinking I'm going to love highly recommended/promoted/talked about books. This is another case of a book that was so highly recommended to me and it just fell so flat. I am sure I'm in the minority, but this book didn't do it for me.
Summer is a weak little girl with so many issues that a therapist would probably decline working with her. Who cares if her sexual desires are out of the norm, the rest of her is super messed up. I get she went through a heck of a lot, but her character showed no growth, no strength, nothing. She was a weak, naive doormat, and she ran from her problems and reinvented herself and called that growth. Nope. You're the same and that was clear when you fell back into old patterns.
Whit is the worst kind of jerk and not in the sexy way. He's not a hot bully and he's not a hot alphahole, he's just an asshole that's unredeemable in the way this story was written. He seems to do a couple of good acts, then falls right back to being degrading (and not in the hot way) and manipulating, and every red flag under the sun. Somehow that becomes love? No. His version of what it means to love someone is so warped, and then the him at the very end is so different than the rest of the book without any idea of where the growth came from that it just seemed like the author wanted to wrap this up in a neat HEA. It made no sense and was incredibly unsatisfying. This book had so much potential in the beginning and then just completely fell apart.
I'm frustrated that I fell into the trap of a highly touted book again, so I'm going to be honest with you. I would not recommend this one. As always, YMMV.
